The Museum of Dreams
"A research hub exploring the social and political significance of dream-life."
I don’t remember how we stumbled into each other. One day, zombie-scrolling on Instagram, I happened upon the page for the handle @museum_of_dreams. It quickly turned into a detour from the brain-drain app to the website The Museum of Dreams.
Check out this excerpt from their ‘About’ page:
We believe dreaming is one of the most important means through which we can envision and transform the collective world that lies between us.
Inspired by a broad body of research, the Museum’s chief mandate is to explore new and old ways to access and share the power of dream-work as a collective resource for engaging our social and political conflicts. In support of this aim, the Museum actively develops partnerships with a wide variety of individuals and institutions – from the arts and cultural sectors to mental health and community care.
Excuse me, what is happening…???
Of course I checked out their podcast The Guardians of Sleep. The title was inspired by Sigmund Freud’s quote, “…dreams are the guardians of sleep and not its disturbers.” The podcast exists to explore the value of dreams. Season 2 is specifically creating a platform to “investigates the history of how and why dreams were devalued in Western society, as well as contemporary Indigenous methods for attending the knowledge offered in these experiences.”
In the first episode of Season 2, Abigail Echo-Hawk is interviewed. Abigail is a member of the Pawnee Nation of Oklahoma and the Executive Vice President at Seattle Indian Health Board and the Director of the Urban Indian Health Institute (UIHI). In this episode, she shares about a dream that confirmed her decision to make a career shift that has led to her work on Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls.
This is literally what Stephanie and I have been co-creating through Prism of Wisdom 😳 …
To know that this beautiful body of work exists is delightfully surprising and deeply affirming. I highly recommend you check out these resources.
Also. I may have sent them an email about what’s happening in this corner of the Substack-universe 😏✌️
The parallels are uncanny and delightful! It’s as if the dreams are speaking and moving through us…😃
